Why doesn’t God answer my prayer?
Why doesn’t God answer my prayer?
This question is often asked, and quickly followed by another, “If God is so good, why is their suffering in the world?”
I’d love to delve into the motive behind these questions; on face value they seem innocent enough, but the attitude behind it can be audacious. Some people, not you 🙂 are really saying, “God didn’t do what they wanted him to.”
God not only created us, He has amazing power, so we need to come to Him with a good attitude. If I wanted something from my boss, I wouldn’t demand it; Besides being disrespectful, it will most likely result in a negative answer. The best possible chance of a positive answer is to ask politely and with a good attitude. How much bigger is God than our bosses? Doesn’t He need to be treated with a proportionate amount of respect?
When we come with a wrong attitude, we make ourselves to be above God, becoming critical of Him when He doesn’t deliver to our expectations. We treat God like he’s a slave, or servant to do our bidding-so we make God out to be small and then denounce Him for not coming up with the goods.
Or we could be humble in our attitudes, elevate God to His rightful position, and then pray to Him. Funnily enough when we come in this attitude, we won’t be asking the same question.
When we elevate God to His rightful place, with Him up and us down- then we allow His grace to flow to us. But if we become proud and put ourselves above God, then there is no grace flowing down to us- in fact God will oppose us!
“God opposes the proud, but gives grace to the humble.”
Let me finish with this final thought, next time you don’t get your answer from God, ask yourself this question. Did you want something from God? Or did you actually want God himself?
God doesn’t play Hide and Seek very well-So if you want Him, then just ask, and keep asking till you’ve got Him! “You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart“. That’s His quote, not mine! And unlike man, He keeps His promises.
