Encouragement to Scripture Teachers
An Encouragement to Scripture Teachers
I rocked up to a new church last week and recognised a face from 15 years ago. She was a child when I saw her last, but now a gorgeous young lady.
She was in a group with her friends when I broke in, somewhat awkwardly- think first time roller skater and you’d be close to the mark.
“Claudia”? I said a little unsure that I had the right girl.
She replied, “Oh Mrs Wynne, I was just talking about you last week,” to my bemusement. Then she explained, “Someone asked me how I became a christian, and I said, well, there was this scripture teacher…”
And then it dawned on me, I was that scripture teacher, I’ve often heard other people’s testimony of how they found Jesus, and they talked about the impact their scripture teacher had on them. And now I was one of them. But really, I always was, I just didn’t know it.
If you are a scripture teacher, chances are, YOU are also one of them!! Maybe you didn’t know about it because you’ve never had the opportunity to ‘bump into’ a past student.
But I just wanted to encourage you today, if you have in any way spread the Good News about Jesus to children, I pray that you get a deep sense of peace that YOU are also that scripture teacher!
Remember we are not just educating children about Jesus, we are inspiring them to want to live a life in Jesus.
When we teach, it’s not just what we say, it’s how we say it. Which is underpinned by why we say it. Has Jesus impacted your life? Are you demonstrating it? Are you enthusiastic about your Lord and Saviour? Is it infectious? Are you excited to share with young minds the outrageous, loving and incredible God we have?
Young minds are so eager to soak up the truth. When we plant a seed of God’s truth, watered with care and love, sprinkled with fun and games, it can blossom over time into a harvest. And in this climate of social media morals, heaven knows they’ll need it.
