Are Christians Fooled by Jesus?
Are Christians fooled by Jesus?
Let’s ponder on whether this Jesus guy is real, or are christians all around the world duped by him?
There’s a quote by Mark Twain that says, “It’s easier to fool people than to convince them they were fooled”.
Once people have made a decision and invested themselves whether physically, financially, spiritually or emotionally- then they are less likely to change their mind. Because to see their investment as deficient requires acknowledgement of error and that’s harder to live with than the state in which they find themselves. Moreover, the bigger the investment, the harder it is to change our minds.
The big lesson here? Be thorough and careful in our analysis before making any decision, especially if the decision has substantial consequences. And even then, keep an open mind if new information arises that goes against our initial judgement or decision.
Case in point: A doctor takes a good history of a patient and examines carefully all the symptoms. They make an objective diagnosis (without bias) only after all possibilities are exhausted. To do otherwise would result in a malpractice lawsuit quicker than an ambulance on route to an accident.
So let’s take a look at the process of making a decision, in light of Christianity. When people decide to believe in Jesus as God, have they done a full investigation before they invest? or are they fooled by Jesus?
Are Christians fooled by Jesus?
If Christians are fooled by Jesus then paraphrasing the words of CS Lewis we were either duped by a madman or led astray by a liar. Because Jesus claimed he was Lord; he was telling the truth, lying or mad.
Here are some big reasons for believing Jesus is the son of God.
- Jesus defied human limitations by performing miracles and even rising back to life after being mutilated on a cross. This showed he was no ordinary man.
- Jesus coming into the world was predicted hundreds of years earlier. To know the future was no human act.
- Jesus came to offer eternal life that didn’t involve superficial and ritualistic acts to get there.
- Jesus came into a world he created, and made himself subject to us humans. That defies human logic! Certainly this is not a man-made religion.
- Jesus was without sin. He never made one mistake ever.
- The power of forgiveness. To be aware of our warped nature, and then actively turn away from it towards good, requires a superhuman strength.
There are countless stories of non believers who take a good hard look at the evidence of Jesus and then realise that he is true. The Case for Christ by Lee Strobel, an award winning journalist, is just one of these.
So to answer the question, are christians fooled by Jesus? I don’t think so, and I’m in good company with CS Lewis, Billy Graham and Mother Teresa also believing in Him.
